Typically corporates cite the need for “Enterprise class” systems. However, I think that really what we are dealing with here is fear, fear that free software equals free services.

Opensource has never been about free services, however the underlying fear that the service model will not generate sufficient revenues remains.

Corporate organisations that do adopt Opensource will force vendors to focus on how they can add value through the implementation of innovative solutions that strongly align to the business.

Hopefully this change in focus will lead to the implementation of more comprehensive transformation solutions, which will for example result in end users being properly trained to work with newly implemented systems.
